The Eighth Amendment

If the eighth amendment was not revised into the constitution, then our world would be very dangerous. For example, if there was no law or restriction against cruel and unusual punishment, imagine what our world would be like today. If you were speeding on the highway and you got pulled over by a police officer, instead of a ticket you got dragged away and beaten, that would not be a good thing. Our lives would be very different if this was not an amendment. This is a good thing that the eighth amendment was revised into the constitution.

Say that your friend got sent to jail and you wanted to be nice and bail them out. Would you bail them out if the fine was almost one million dollars? Even if you love them, I’m almost positive that you wouldn’t. I don’t have that kind of money. This is where the eighth amendment comes into play again. The amendment states that excessive bail shall not be required. If this was never part of the amendment the court could charge you ten million dollars for a bail. This is a very important part of the eighth amendment.

If we did not have this amendment my life would change dramatically. For example, it would change because in some countries in their schools, teachers are allowed to beat children. Then are allowed to hit them hard, slap them, do whatever to them if they misbehave in class. This would change my life if teachers were allowed to hurt kids in school. Also if one of my loved ones ever got sent to jail, then I would not want to pay and excessive bail fine just to get them out! Would you want to pay 10,000,000 dollars for bail? I am sure that you wouldn’t.

The eight amendment is important because the amendment states that excessive bail fines shall not be required, nor excessive fines imposed, nor cruel and unusual punishment. This is important in a free society because not everybody has the money to pay excessive fines or bail. Without this then we could be experiencing another great depression. It would put our country in debt if all our money had to go toward fines and bails that could exceed the amount of one million. This is part of the reason why the eight amendment is important in a free society.

Another reason that the eighth amendment is important in a free society is because nobody should be badly beaten, harassed, or unusually punished because they did something wrong or broke a law. This amendment prevents all of this from happening. We are lucky that we have good revisions to the constitution. Would you want to be beaten or unusually punished for breaking a law or would you rather go to jail or pay a fine? I know that I would rather pay a fine or go to jail than be beaten and punished badly. We are humans and nobody should be treated that way.
